Panic began as so many things do in Carp, a dead-end town of 12,000 people in the middle of nowhere: because it was summer, and there was nothing else to do.
Heather never thought she would compete in Panic, a legendary game played by graduating seniors, where the stakes are high and the payoff is even higher. She’d never thought of herself as fearless, the kind of person who would fight to stand out. But when she finds something, and someone, to fight for, she will discover that she is braver than she ever thought.
Dodge has never been afraid of Panic. His secret will fuel him, and get him all the way through the game, he’s sure of it. But what he doesn't know is that he’s not the only one with a secret. Everyone has something to play for.
For Heather and Dodge, the game will bring new alliances, unexpected revelations, and the possibility of first love for each of them—and the knowledge that sometimes the very things we fear are those we need the most. Synopsis from Goodreads
Panic by Lauren
Oliver was a lot different than I thought it would be. I assumed it was about
some harmless games played by teenagers during the summer, but boy was I wrong.
Panic is a game played by high school seniors in the small town of Carp. It is
played every year and the prize is huge. Everyone at Carp High pays a dollar
for every day that school is in session. This years prize is 67 thousand
dollars and the winner gets all of it. Winning Panic is no easy task as it involves
life-threatening challenges. The dual perspectives between Heather and Dodge
were a good way to understand the characters and the story more. I am a big fan
of Lauren Oliver and I think this is a great book and I recommend it to anyone
looking for an interesting read!
*NOTE: I read and reviewed this in March when it came out. My review was posted on my local bookstores website and I thought I'd put it on my blog now. This review is also more formal than my future reviews because this was posted on a bookstore's site. I promise my other reviews won't be as formal!!*
