"The Shadow Fold, a swathe of impenetrable darkness, crawling with monsters that feast on human flesh, is slowly destroying the once-great nation of Ravka.Wow wow wow this book guys.....so good!! I read this along with sophie from sophiereads (she is one of my best booktube friends and she's pretty awesome) and she really enjoyed it as well. Leigh Bardugo created such a unique world with really interesting characters and there were some very cool powers that the Grisha could do.
Alina, a pale, lonely orphan, discovers a unique power that thrusts her into the lavish world of the kingdom’s magical elite—the Grisha. Could she be the key to unravelling the dark fabric of the Shadow Fold and setting Ravka free?
The Darkling, a creature of seductive charm and terrifying power, leader of the Grisha. If Alina is to fulfill her destiny, she must discover how to unlock her gift and face up to her dangerous attraction to him.
But what of Mal, Alina’s childhood best friend? As Alina contemplates her dazzling new future, why can’t she ever quite forget him?
Glorious. Epic. Irresistible. Romance." -Synopsis from Goodreads
First off, I really like the main character, Alina. When she was thrust into this new life, she took it very well. Mal, her best friend since they were little, was probably my favourite character in the whole book. He was very laid back but he was serious and caring when he needed to be. I ship Mal and Alina more than the Darkling and Alina....oops. I don't really know how I feel about the Darkling. I liked him in the beginning because he was very mysterious and really cute but then as the book went on I started to dislike him because reasons I cannot say (bc spoilers). I think once I read Siege and Storm I'll know where I stand with the Darkling so I'll definitely be doing a review on that book as well.

QUOTES:
“I'm sorry it took me so long to see you, Alina. But I see you now.”
“Just you and me."
"Really?"
"It's always just you and me, Alina.”
“Too much champagne?”
“Maybe.”
“Silly girl,” she said, looping her arm through mine. “There’s no such thing as too much champagne. Though your head will try to tell you otherwise tomorrow.”
“The problem with wanting is that it makes us weak.”
“No rustle came from the trees, no insect buzz or neighbors call. The woods were silent in their grief.”
