"In a land without magic, where the king rules with an iron hand, an assassin is summoned to the castle. She comes not to kill the king, but to win her freedom. If she defeats twenty-three killers, thieves, and warriors in a competition, she is released from prison to serve as the king's champion. Her name is Celaena Sardothien.
The Crown Prince will provoke her. The Captain of the Guard will protect her. But something evil dwells in the castle of glass--and it's there to kill. When her competitors start dying one by one, Celaena's fight for freedom becomes a fight for survival, and a desperate quest to root out the evil before it destroys her world."
                                                                                                Synopsis from Goodreads

Where to begin with this book, oh my... First of all the writing is amazing and I can't believe Sarah J. Maas wrote the book when she was 16, and then later edited it. The story is complex with a lot of really cool fantasy elements and it was so well executed. It was fast-paced, the characters were all so cool and very well developed, and the mystery element in this was a great touch to the story. The process of the competition to become the King's Champion was really intense and fun to read and there were a lot of really interesting (and super scary) competitors.

As far as the love triangle goes, I'm sooooo conflicted as to what "team" I'm on. I mean Dorian seems like a really great guy but Chaol.... *heart eyes emojii* like man I have no idea why I like Chaol so much. He's quite reserved but when you see the soft spot he has for Celaena, he's got me like:

Ok, back to the bad ass-ery in this book. Celaena crushes gender roles because OMG NO WAY SHE'S A GIRL AND IS ADARLAN'S GREATEST ASSASSIN, what the hell right? (sarcasm). We see these gender roles during the book when Dorian tells her that they will keep her identity as a secret because no one knows that a girl (GASP) is Adarlan's famous assassin. Throughout the book the other competitors think her name is Lillian and that she's a jewel thief, so they automatically don't think she's threatening. To be honest, it's a good strategy to keeping her off the radar and then make a big appearance later on when the harder competition is being targeted.

“My name is Celaena Sardothien. But it makes no difference if my name's Celaena or Lillian or Bitch, because I'd still beat you, no matter what you call me.” -Throne of Glass

You go girl YASSSS. Celaena is defenitely my favourite female character, and if I knew her IRL I would want to be her best friend because if anyone messes with us she'll kick their asses.

“Don’t you ever do anything other than read?” - Throne of Glass

“I hate women like that. They're so desperate for the attention of men that they'd willingly betray and harm members of their own sex” - Throne of Glass

So yeah, those are my thoughts on this book. I'm probably going to pick up Crown of Midnight this month, or next month and I'll review that too!
